Matthew began his piano tuition at Alderman Peel High School at the age of eleven and within five years passed his Grade 5 Theory and Grade 8 Practical exams (ABRSM). During his junior years he obtained many awards for his musical achievement, including the Subject Prize for Music, Excellence in Music and the M.W Clifford Award. He studied for two years at the College of West Anglia graduating with a triple distinction in Music. In 2011, Matthew commenced further education at Leeds College of Music to study for a Bachelor’s Degree in Classical Composition and graduated with a first-class honours degree. In December 2016 he passed his ABRSM Diploma in Piano Performance with distinction. In 2019 and 2020, Matthew and colleague Benjamin Howell gained two distinctions in their ALCM and LLCM Piano Duet diplomas. They are both now working on their FLCM Piano Duet diploma - the highest honour the LCM board present. Matthew is also currently studying for his LRSM in Piano Performance under the direction of Gillian Smith. 

    Matthew currently holds teaching positions at Wells-next-the-Sea Primary School, Burnham Market Primary School, Alderman Peel High School, Beeston Hall School and Glebe House School where he teaches piano and theory to pupils from ages 5 to 16. In addition to his school tutoring, Matthew teaches numerous students privately in Hempton and at student’s homes in the surrounding area. He works alongside fellow musician and teacher, Benjamin Howell, as one half of ‘The Missing Coda Company’, playing duets and organising music workshops for students. Matthew is a regular performer having played at many local venues. He is also the organist for the Briningham Benefice, accompanist for the Dersingham Community Choir, and plays the piano for weddings at Holkham Hall. In addition to this, he has recently taken on the role of Regional Organiser for European Piano Teachers Association (Norfolk) and has become a Trustee of the Norfolk County Music Festival.
